A Better Alternative for UK GovernmentPolitics and democracy create poor government.Let us examine some recent examples of what our politicians did for us: Our politicians presided over the mess that has been made of the economy, which may take a generation to pay for. Our politicians have been shamelessly helping themselves to our hard earned money. Our politicians decided that Eurocrats did not have enough power over us, nor enough of our money. Our politicians failed to ensure we have enough housing, leading to a house price boom and bust. Our politicians took us to war with a country that was no threat to us. Our politicians made our education system exams worthless. Our politicians made the conditions right for our growing massive unemployment. Our politicians had such little foresight that they did not save for difficult times. Our politicians did nothing to create a fair pensions system. Our politicians talk about the importance of the environment, but show very little leadership. Our politicians raised our tax burden to be one of the highest in the world. As for democracy, it is a merely a cynical ploy politicians use to convince everyone that they have some say in how the country is run. Voting for one party of politicians over another party once every five years is useless. All it achieves is shifting the opportunity to run things badly from one group of power crazed, self-serving, ego maniacs to another. Our money grabbing politicians are there for the benefit of themselves, not our country. They will change the current system as little as possible, because it works for them, not us. Now is the time for a big change in how the UK is run. We don't need the antique 'big man' system of government we inherited from our tribal past. We need a modern system, for a modern society. We need the country to be run by experts. We need Expert Government. OverviewWhatThis site advances the possibility of a new and better form of UK government, an Expert Government, that has as its central principles: continual adaptation, the avoidance of corruption and the use of the most appropriate people in its roles. Continual adaptation is provided by constantly seeking out, reassessing, and incorporating the best ideas. Avoidance of corruption is provided by ensuring power is widely distributed and strongly controlled in roles that have limited tenure. Appropriate people are selected based on experience, commitment, intelligence, knowledge, maturity and honesty. WhyAll forms of government experience problems. Despite their diversity those problems are rooted in common issues: inflexibility, corruption, inappropriate people, impotent government, poor information, inadequate structures and procedures, unresponsiveness, high cost and lack of stability. Most systems of government tend to be based on fixed ideologies that make them inflexible. By selecting the best ideas, honing them and adapting to changing situations, government may constantly tune itself to provide the best possible government for its time and circumstances. This is a significant shift away from dogma and ideology based systems. Corruption is probably the most insidious cause of failed and degenerate systems. Government must strive to deny any chance for corruption and treat it harshly where it is discovered. Even with a well designed government in place it can fall short of its potential if it is populated with inappropriate people. Government should be an aspiration for people who pursue excellence, rather than a home for the indolent, corrupt and inept. HowFirstly, a complete new system of government needs to be designed. |
